Access Statement For Alvera Court

 

 

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our 12 bedroom bed and breakfast. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

 

Pre-Arrival
 
There is a bus station 15 minutes walk and there is a frequent bus service in all directions

• The main train station is 15 minutes walk. 

There is a local taxi service that has accessible taxis if required.           We can make a booking for you.

• Menus can be provided in large print and Braille by prior arrangement

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 
• On Arrival to the property there are double entrance gates, these are open after
3.00pm until 10.00pm approx. To open yourself turn the black handle ring on the gate and hook the gate against the wall. If you have any difficulty ring our doorbell for assistance

• Parking bays are marked and we will also give assistance parking

• The surface is slightly sloped with gravel base, however there is a footpath made of concrete which covers from the carpark to the front entrance.

• We can assist guests with luggage

• The town centre is 10 minutes walk from Alvera Court

 

Main Entrance & Reception
 
The front door has seven steps 17cm high, with handrail at the right hand side. 

 

•The porch ( second ) front door is always locked but we do have a bell at the front door to summon assistance

•The front door is 107cm wide. The porch door is 85cm wide

•On entry into reception there is a hallway 907cm going to 2000cm

•There is short pile carpet flooring throughout the ground floor

 

Public Areas - General (Internal)

• Our corridors to the ground floor lounge, bar and breakfast room are 2000cm wide

• Corridors have a good colour contrast and are well lit

• The flooring on corridors and rooms on the ground floor are short pile carpet

• The covering on stairs and upstairs corridors is short pile carpet

•There are 6 stairs to a landing followed by a further 8 stairs to the first ½ landing where there is a chair then 4 more stairs to the first floor bedrooms.

•The stairs are 17cm high, 25cm deep, 70cm wide

 

Public Areas - WC

 

• All bedrooms are en suite, no public WC available

 

Breakfast Room & Lounge

• Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor.  There are no steps

• Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.

• Tables have underspace of 62cm high by 48cm wide and height of 77cm (legs on each corner).  There are chairs without arms which can be moved to accommodate.

• Menus are provided in large print and can be provided in Braille by prior arrangement

• We do not play background music in any area of the premises

 

Laundry
• We can have collected for dry cleaning, suits, shirts, ties etc through a third party, details are in the room folder

 

 

 

Bedrooms
 
• There are 12 bedrooms, 6 on the first floor and 6 on the second floor.

 

 

First floor bedrooms ( Double and Twin )

• Door width (main and bathroom) are 76cm wide

• Double or twin ( two single ) bedded room

• There is approximately 80cm between the wall and each side of the bed (the bed does move so 160cm total space is available to one side)

• There is 1.2 metres free space at the end of the bed to the wardrobe.

• There is an ensuite shower room (see below for details)

• Bed is 60cm high.

• There is a TV with remote control and teletext

• Fitted short pile carpet on the floor

• Good contrast in décor

 

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC en-suite
 
First floor bedroom ensuite

•Door width 67cm wide opening outwards.

•Shower cubicle edge/step is 14cm high.

•Free floor space 95cm x 170cm

•Basin is rounded at the front and is on a pedestal unit 86cm high

•Toilet is 46cm high

• Good colour contrast of walls, floor and fittings.

 

 

First floor bedrooms ( Single )

• Door width (main and bathroom) are 76cm wide

• Single bedded room

• There is approximately 80cm between the wall and each side of the bed (the bed does move so 160cm total space is available to one side)

•There is 1.2 metres free space at the end of the bed to the wardrobe.

•There is an ensuite shower room (see below for details)

•Bed is 60cm high but can be raised with blocks on request

• There is a TV with remote control and teletext

• Fitted short pile carpet on the floor

• Good contrast in décor

 

 

Shower-room & WC en-suite

Grounds and Gardens


• We have a small enclosed garden (flower border and lawn) for residents to sit in (chairs and table available)

• There is a local park 10 minutes walk from us.  This park leads onto a Harlow Carr Gardens which is open to the public also.

 

Additional Information
 
• Assistance dogs are welcomed. 

• Mobile phone reception is generally good

• We are able to use the front entrance, and fire doors on each floor level in the need of evacuation, the firebell rings continuously if evacuation is needed.  If you require more assistance for evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely e.g. hearing impairment.

• We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment (please let us know if ordered - telephone number below for hirers)

• We are a no smoking building (smoking is allowed in the garden on the table and chairs and ashtrays are provided)

• We are happy to place any medication in our main fridge on request (access not available 24hours).
